1791

Olympes de Gouges

Olympes de Gouges is one of the pioneers of French féminism, she is also author of the Declaration of woman’s right and citizen, she’s one of the emblems for her movement for the release of womens. She’s known because she was the first to demonstrate and dare to claim equality between men and women in 1791.

1884

Hubertine Auclert

Hubertine Auclert called “The French suffragette” is à French feminist activist who fighted for the eligibility of women and their voting rights. Compared to Olympes de Gouges, Hubertine was not well known. When we heard the term “feminism”, the name who stood out the most was the philosopher Olympes de Gouges. She was also more radical about her actions or parity, including on politics which was far from being won.

1906

Madeleine Pelletier

Madeleine Pelletier was the first woman doctor to graduate in psychiatry in France. She was involved in politics and philosophy and is part of the most committed feminists of the 20th Century. She was easily recognisable with a rather tomboyish appearance and was also a member of the suffragettes whose aim it was to demand the right to vote.

1955

Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks is Afro-American women who faces out of sexism but also about racial segregation. She was known in part of in 1955 with the boycott of the bus who she woked together with Matin Luhter King which laster 380 days. This is all due to the fact that she has to wait for all white people to sit down, and that she has to sit down at a fixed location otherwise she can’t take the bus. That is until she said no once and for all.

1970

Simone de Beauvoir

Simone de Beauvoir have, in 1943 released the book “Le Deuxieme sexe”. Se explain tha, the men domination was a success, she talks as well about abortion, the motherhood and marriage. It is then that she participated in the release of the women's movement in the 1970’s. Her idea was that women's corpses are not always free of domination.

1974

Simone Veil

Simone Veil is one of feminism icon in France but she didn’t consider herself not like a feminist. She made a judgment who was a success wich is to make a law about voluntary termination of pregnancy. She is also the first woman to take the chair in parliament.

Feminism : A set of philosophical movements and ideas aimed at defining and promoting equality.

Protofeminism : Concept that anticipates modern feminism in contexs where the concept of feminism as such is still unkown.

#metoo: Social movements encourage woment ot speak out, to make it known that rape and sexual assault are more common that is often assumed.

Sexism : Discrimination on the basis of a person’s sex or, by extension, gender.
